ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES

National Seminars/Conferences

(AGRASRI is organising the National level Seminars, Conferences, Workshops, Round-Table Meetings, Colloquiums every year in the month of August on Social Science and relevant public policy themes with the support of Government of India, Government of Andhra Pradesh and other Funding Organisations by involving a large number of Social Scientists, Policy Makers, Administrators, Researchers and Elected Representatives of PRI’s.

In pursuance of the aims and objectives of the AGRASRI towards strengthening the grassroots democratic institutions as self-sufficient Village Republics in India, a number of academic and research activities and programmes have been organised since its inception.

The following is the list of National Seminars/Conferences/Colloquiums/Workshops/Round-Table Meetings, organised by the AGRASRI, since its inception:

  1. One-day National Seminar on ‘Panchayati Raj Institutions in India: Real Powers and Responsibilities’, held on 20 August, 2002, which was inaugurated by Shri Mani Shankar Aiyar, the then Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) and CWC Member of AICC, New Delhi.

  2. Rajiv Gandhi National Awards Installation programme, which was inaugurated by Dr. K. Keshava Rao, the then President of Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (I), Hyderabad, held on 19 January, 2005.

  3. One-day Round-Table Meeting on ‘Shri Rajiv Gandhi and National Integration’, which was inaugurated by Dr. Agarala Easwara Reddi, Former Speaker of Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly, Hyderabad, held on 21 May, 2005.

  4. Two-day Regional Workshop on ‘Capacity Building and Good Governance for Sarpanchs of Andhra Pradesh’ held on 6 and 7 February, 2006, which was inaugurated by Shri B.Karunakar Reddy, the then Chairman of Tirupati Urban Development Authority, Tirupati. The Regional Workshop was Sponsored by the Indian Council for Social Science Research (ICSSR), Southern Regional Centre, Hyderabad.

  5. Two-day National Seminar on ‘Panchayati Raj Institutions after 73rd Constitution Amendment: A New Deal for Rural India’, held on 19 and 20 August, 2006, which was inaugurated by Shri M.V. Rajasekharan, the then Union Minister of State for Planning, Government of India, New Delhi, on 19 August, 2006. The Seminar was Sponsored by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, Govt. of India, New Delhi.

  6. One-day Workshop on ‘Right to Information Act in Andhra Pradesh: A Way Forward for Good Governance’, which was inaugurated by Shri Solipeta Ramachandra Reddy, Former Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), New Delhi, held on 1 November, 2006.

  7. Special Lecture on ‘Relevance of Satyagraha in the Cyber Age’, by Professor N. Radhakrishnan, Chairman, Indian Council of Gandhian Studies, New Delhi, held on 25 November, 2006.

  8. National Panchayati Raj Day Celebrations and One-day Workshop on ‘Status and Position of Panchayati Raj Institutions after 73rd Constitution Amendment: Need for Second Generation Reforms in India’, which was inaugurated by Dr. Jayaprakash Narayana, IAS (Retd.), the then Member of the Second Administrative Reforms Commission, Govt. of India, New Delhi, held on 24 April, 2007.

  9. Two-day National Conference on ‘Role of Panchayati Raj Institutions after 60 Years of Independent India: A Vision of the Future’, held on 19 and 20 August, 2007, which was inaugurated by Dr. A. Chakrapani, Chairman, Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council, Hyderabad, on 19 August, 2007. The Conference was Sponsored by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, Govt. of India, New Delhi.

  10. One-day Workshop on ‘New Development Agenda in Andhra Pradesh: Implementation and Emerging Challenges, which was inaugurated by Shri Ch. Rajeswara Rao, the then Vice-President of Telugu Desam Legislature Party, Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly, Hyderabad, held on 1 November, 2007.

  11. Two-day National Conference on ‘Empowerment of Women in Parliament and Local Self-Government Institutions in India: Role, Status, Participation and Decision-Making’, held on 19 and 20 August, 2008, which was inaugurated by Smt. Prema Cariappa, Chairperson, Central Social Welfare Board, Govt. of India, New Delhi, on 19 August, 2008. The Conference was Sponsored by the National Commission for Women, Govt. of India, New Delhi.

  12. One-day Workshop on ‘Telugu as an Official Language in Andhra Pradesh: Emerging Challenges and Problems in its Implementation’, which was inaugurated by Dr. Turlapaty Kutumba Rao, Member, Kendriya Sahitya Academy, New Delhi, held on 22 November, 2008.

  13. Two-day National Colloquium on ‘Grassroots Level Planning and Local Government Institutions in India: Policy Initiatives and People’s Participation since 1992’, held on 19 and 20 August,2009, which was Inaugurated by Shri A.N. Tiwari, IAS (Retd.), Central Information Commissioner (RTI), Government of India, New Delhi, on 19 August, 2009. The Conference was Sponsored by the National Commission for Women, Govt. of India, New Delhi.

  14. Three-day Regional Workshop on ‘Grassroots Women Leadership’, held on 22, 23 and 24 November, 2009, at RASS Conference Hall, Tirupati. The Workshop was Inaugurated by Professor (Mrs) G. Saojamma, Vice-Chancellor, Sri vathi Mahila Visvavidyalayam, Tirupati, on 22 November, 2009. Smt. K. Shanta Reddy, Former Member of National Commission for Women, Government of India, New Delhi, delivered the Valedictory Address, on 24 November, 2009. The Workshop was Sponsored by the National Commission for Women, Govt. of India, New Delhi.

  15. One-day Workshop on ‘Training of Trainers’, held on 1 March, 2010 at RASS Conference Hall, Tirupati, which was Inaugurated by Shri Solipeta Ramachandra Reddy, Former Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), Hyderabad.

  16. Five-day Workshop on ‘Training of the Trainers (ToT’s)’ for the Capacity Building & Training Programmes for the Elected Representatives of Panchayati Raj Institutions(Sarpanchs & MPTC Members) in Chittoor District, held on 2-6, March, 2010 at the Extension Training Centre, APARD, Sri Kalahasthi, Andhra Pradesh.

  17. One-day Round-Table Meeting on ‘Terrorism in India - Emerging Challenges and Threats’, held on 21 May, 2010 at RASS Conference Hall, Tirupati, which was Inaugurated by Shri M.K. Singh, IPS, Chief Vigilance & Security Officer, Tirumala-Tirupati Devasthanams, Tirupati. Dr. Agarala Easwara Reddi, Former Speaker, Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly, Hyderabad and Professor K. Rathnaiah, Rector, Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati, participated in the Round-Table Meeting, as Chief Guest and Guest of Honour.

  18. Two-day National Convention on ‘Fifty Percent Reservations for Women in Rural and Urban Local Bodies: A Way Forward for Inclusive Growth in Contemporary India’, held on 20 and 21 August, 2010, which was Inaugurated by Dr (Mrs) Manju Sharma, Former Secretary, Department of Bio-Technology, Govt. of India, New Delhi, on 20 August, 2010. The Conference was Sponsored by the National Commission for Women, Govt. of India, New Delhi.

  19. Two-day Regional Seminar on ‘100 Years of Chittoor District: Birth Place of Many Legendary Personalities’, held on 1 and 2 April, 2011 at RASS Conferenc Hall, Tirupati, on the eve of Centenary Celebrations of the Chittoor District, Andhra Pradesh.
