Youth Resource Centre

The Youth Resource Centre (YRC) is located in Tirupati, a world renowned Hindu pilgrim centre and a hub of reputed educational institutions of Andhra Pradesh. By empowering youth for a resurgent India, the Academy of Grassroots Studies and Research of India (AGRASRI) has taken initiatives for the establishment of Youth Resource Centre, in collaboration with the Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development, Govt. of India, to realise ‘Development of Youth’ and ‘Youth for Development’ a reality. This is a significant milestone for young people in the area as well as AGRASRI.

OBJECTIVES

The main objectives of the AGRASRI Youth Resource Centre are as follows:

  • To reach up to the unreached youth population in the area and to mainstream youth in local governance and sustainable development;
  • To involve the rural youth in nation building activities and programmes;
  • To develop values of good citizenship, skill development and transform the leadership qualities in grassroots governance, as future policy makers;
  • To impart the capacity building and training programmes for the elected youth representatives of PRI’s and Nagar Palika Institutions, as responsible policy makers;
  • To disseminate the update knowledge on government welfare schemes and programmes for youth empowerment and development; and
  • To guide the educated youth of the underprivileged segments of the society for their active participation in decision-making process at the grassroots level.

VISION

The Vision of the AGRASRI Youth Resource Centre is to enhance the youth capabilities and empowerment for good citizenship and youth leadership at the grassroots level, through action research, training, advocacy and consultancy.

MISSION

The Mission of the AGRASRI Youth Resource Centre is:

  • To organise life skills, computer training, personality development, livelihoods and employment, and health related programmes for the school and the college students of the area;
  • To conduct innovative study and research on youth related issues and problems in an inter-disciplinary perspective and approach and to make available its findings and recommendations to the key policy makers at the helm of affairs for an appropriate policy decisions;
  • To develop vocational skills of rural young women and enabling them to supplement their family income for sustainable livelihood;
  • To provide academic as well as technical consultancy and expertise to the educated rural youth in employment career and livelihood opportunities, especially for the downtrodden segments of the society.

ACTIVITIES

Apart from regular training and awareness programmes, the AGRASRI Youth Resource Centre has organised the following activities & programmes for the youth, both men and women, since its inception:

  1. Action Research Project on ‘Mainstreaming Youth in Local Governance - The Andhra Pradesh Experience with Special Reference to Paidipalli Gram Panchayat in Chittoor District’, during the Year 2012-2013, sponsored by the Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development, Govt. of India, Sriperambudur.
  2. Workshop on ‘Youth Participation in Local Governance: Opportunities and Challenges’ held on 1 March, 2012 at Paidipalli Gram Panchayat, Tirupati Rural Mandal of Chittoor District. Chief Guest: Dr. P.V. Sesha Reddy, the then District Panchayat Officer, Chittoor.
  3. Round-Table Meeting on ‘Role of Panchayati Raj Institutions for Inclusive Growth: An Administrative Perspective’, held on 24 April, 2012 at Youth Hostel Conference Hall, Tirupati. Chief Guest: Dr. P.V. Sesha Reddy, the then District Panchayat Officer, Chittoor.
  4. Core Committee Meeting on ‘Participation of Youth in Rural Development’ held on 2 June, 2012 at Paidipalli Gram Panchayat Meeting Hall, Paidipalli, Tirupati Rural Mandal of Chittoor District. Key-Note Speaker: Dr. D. Sundar Ram, Director, AGRASRI, Tirupati.
  5. Symposium on ‘Terrorism in India: Threat to Indian Unity and Integrity’ held on 21 May, 2012 at AGRASRI Meeting Hall, Tirupati, on the eve of Anti-Terrorism Day and 21st Death Anniversary Celebrations of Shri Rajiv Gandhi. Key-Note Speaker: Dr. D. Sundar Ram, Director, AGRASRI, Tirupati.
  6. Participation in the National Workshop on ‘Mainstreaming Youth in Local Governance: Perspectives of Indian States’, held on 5,6 and 7 June, 2012 at Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development, Govt. of India, Sriperambudur. Chief Guest: Dr. Michael Veda Shiromani, Director and Vice-Chancellor, Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development, Sriperambudur.
  7. Lecture Meeting on ‘Role of Youth in National Integration’, held on 21 May, 2013 at AGRASRI Meeting Hall, Tirupati. Key-Note Speaker: Dr. D. Sundar Ram, Director, AGRASRI, Tirupati.
  8. Panel Discussion on ‘Contributions of Shri Rajiv Gandhi towards Youth Empowerment in India’ held on 20 August, 2013 at Youth Hostel Conference Hall, Tirupati. Chief Guest: Prof. R. Ramamurthi, Past-President, Indian Science Congress and Former Vice-Chancellor of Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati.
  9. Two-day Regional Seminar on ‘Emerging Leadership of Women in Panchayati Raj Institutions: A Way Forward for Inclusive Growth in Contemporary India’, held on 9 and 10 March, 2014 at Hotel Bliss, Tirupati, which was sponsored by the National Commission for Women, Govt. of India, New Delhi. Chief Guest: Dr. Agarala Easwara Reddi, Former Speaker of Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly, Hyderabad. Guests of Honour: Dr (Mrs) B. Vengamma, the then Director and Vice-Chancellor, SVIMS University, Tirupati and Smt. N.P. Durga, Former Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), New Delhi.
  10. Five-day ‘Capacity Building Programme for SC and ST Elected Representatives of PRI’s in Andhra Pradesh: The Case of Chittoor District’, held on 5,6,7,8 and 9, 2015 at Youth Hostel Conference Hall, Tirupati, which was Sponsored by the Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development, Govt. of India, Sriperambudur. Chief Guest: Dr (Mrs) G. Kuthuhalamma, Former Deputy Speaker of AP Legislative Assembly, Hyderabad. Guest of Honour: Dr. V. Varaprasad Rao, Hon’ble Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha), Tirupati.
  11. Participated in the Field Visits by the AGRASRI Youth Resource Centre Members in Selected Gram Panchayats in Chittoor of Andhra Pradesh state for National Research Project on ‘Increasing Domestic Violence against Women in Rural Andhra Pradesh: The Case of Chittoor District’, Sponsored by the National Commission for Women, Govt. of India, during 2015-2016.
  12. Regional Seminar on 'Role of Self-Help Groups in Andhra Pradesh for Inclusive Growth: Best Practices in Chittoor District’, held on 16 and 17 March, 2017 at Youth Hostel Conference Hall, Tirupati, which was Sponsored by the Indian Council of Social Science Research Southern Regional Centre, Hyderabad.   24. Organised Awareness Programmes on ‘COVID-19 Pandemic- Citizens Health Harzards’, in Thummalagunta Gram Panchayat, Tirupati Rural Mandal, Chittoor District of Andhra Pradesh, on 20 August, 2020, in association with Grama Volunteers of Thummalagunta Gram Panchayat.
  25. Distributed Masks and Sanitizer Bottles to the Residents of selected Gram Panchayats on behalf of AGRASRI, in Tirupati Rural Mandal, Chittoor District of Andhra Pradesh on the eve of ‘COVID-19 Pandemic’, on 20, 21 and 22 August, 2020, in association with the Youth and NGO Volunteers.
